Hurry On Home Tonight
You left for work this morning without a kiss goodbye.
We had a disagreement. You were angry. So was I.
Now I feel so sorry. Can’t wait til you get home.
If I could reach you, darling, I’d call you on the phone
And say, I’m sorry. Sorry I let you go.
Sorry I let you leave today and didn’t let you know
That I love you.
I hate it when we fight!
We can talk it over. We can make things right.
Just hurry on home tonight.
When you get back just wait and see,
You’ll be glad you’re home with me.
I’ll show you dear that I really care,
even when we disagree.
It’s 4 o’clock. It’s 5 o’clock. Two more hours to go.
It won’t be long till you come home, then I can let you know …
That I’m sorry. Sorry I let you go.
Sorry I let you leave today
and didn’t let you know
that I love you.
I hate it when we fight.
We can talk it over. We can make things right.
Just hurry on home tonight.
I see your truck. It’s pulling up. You’re home with me again.
As I go to you, I realize I never want our love to end.
And I say I’m sorry. Sorry I let you go.
Sorry I let you leave today and didn’t let you know
that I love you.
I hate it when we fight!
We can talk it over. We can make things right.
I’m so glad you hurried home tonight.
Happiness (A child’s Song)
There are lots of things that make me glad. Kind little acts of love.
When I am nice to others, I feel happy that I was.
When I do things for others, something happens to me, too.
I get a happy feeling through and through.
Sometimes it’s hard to do exactly as I should, but I keep on trying
‘cause ‘I’m happy when I’m good.
When I have tried with all my might
To do a job just right,
It pleases me to see my work — it fills me with delight.
Serving others, learning things, obeying Mom and Daddy,
Obeying God and thanking Him, also make me happy.
Being loved and loving is important in this too,
‘Cause the loving makes me happy through and through.
Snow (a song for children)
Snowflakes gliding down, down, down.
Gently falling to the ground.
All below is white today
Inviting us to go and play.
Warmly dressed against the cold,
Snow is fun for young and old.
Build a snowman. Ride a sleigh.
It’s a wonderland today.
Snow, snow coming down
Gently falling to the ground.

They Saw Emanuel
They watched the sky and saw the star
Then from the East they traveled far
To worship Christ with gift and voice
And kneeling down in awe rejoiced.
The sights the wise men did behold
When they saw Jesus long ago.
They saw his face, small hands and toes
A baby king with mighty foes.
To all the world their story tell!
Men saw, they saw Emanuel!
Nearby shepherds saw him too,
When angels told them of the news.
They left their flocks and hurried on
To see in flesh God’s only son.
The sights the shepherds did behold
When they saw Jesus long ago.
They saw his face, small hands and nose,
A holy babe in swaddling clothes.
To all the world their story tell!
Men saw, they saw Emanuel!
All signs foretold had come to pass
The Promised One was born at last!
He came on earth as man to dwell
And show the way, Emanuel.
To all the world this story tell
Men saw, they saw Emanuel!
Today I Want to Sing
At times I wonder why.
At times I want to quit the race …
To run away and hide.
But not today! Oh no.
Today I’m singing out.
If I will look for it, there’s beauty all about.
It’s one more day that God has made
And gladness will be in it.
And I will stop and notice!
If only for a minute.
Today I want to sing.
My joy cannot be stilled.
I want to put to voice
the happiness I feel.
Today I’m singing.
Today I’m singing out.
If I will look for it, there’s beauty all about.
It’s one more day that God has made
and gladness will be in it.
And I will stop and notice!
If only for a minute.
Poems
The One Matters
One among so many, he stumbled off alone.
Without a thought he wandered
‘Til he was far away from home.
Night’s curtain fell around him.
He was lost, confused with fright.
Wild animals were hovering by,
Their sounds cut through the night.
And the frightened lamb that strayed so far
Had no where he could go.
Then he heard his name
Gentle, soft and low.
The shepherd’s voice was calling him.
A voice he had come to know.
And Jesus held that little lamb
Close unto His breast.
The one had mattered after all,
Far more than he had guessed.
I was like that little lamb,
And thought I would be fine.
There were things in life I had to do.
The choices would be mine!
As troubles came upon me
While traveling on life’s road,
I knew I needed greater strength
To ease my weary load.
Then kneeling down, I understood
Where I could always go.
I heard my name – gentle, soft and low.
The shepherd’s voice … calling me.
A voice I came to know.
And Jesus held this little lamb
Close unto His breast.
This one had mattered after all
Far more than she had guessed.
The one had mattered after all
Far more than she had guessed.
Back In 1955
Before a gum ball machine, I stood.
A penny would buy some gum. It would.
But there was no penny. No way I felt
To get those gum balls for myself.
I stared and thought and wished.
Then my fingers began to twist
A small, flat button on my little girl’s shirt.
Well, what do you know? A button might work!
In went the button. Out came the gum.
Three buttons left, so I used every one!
Around the corner I ran to my house
Holding together my buttonless blouse.
Maybe the owner wasn’t too put out
back in nineteen and fifty-five
When he found four buttons in his gum machine.
Maybe he was just surprised!
The Fly
Went everywhere she did.
She tried to sneak up on it
but it flew away and hid.
Once in her den, she sat.
And soon the fly flew down.
She wondered if it liked her.
‘Cause it hovered near the ground.
Whoever heard of an insect pet?
Could it be? She wondered.
‘Cause as she moved into the hall,
It flew behind and lumbered.
She went into the bedroom
The fly did follow soon.
In the hall, up the stairs
The steadfast fly did zoom!
A crazy thought … and yet …
The fly that follows Phyllis
Farley Is acting like a pet.
What Lasts?
Dark hairs gray
Bloom and beauty are for a day.
What lasts? What weathers time?
What light can hold its shine?
A pleasure brought though brief in span
A deed of love. A helping hand.
Passed on and on and passed again.
Praise Poem
Inspired by Psalms Chapter 107:31
“Oh that we would praise the Lord
for his Goodness and Great Works
to the children of men”
I see the beauty of your world oh Lord,
And joy in your creations.
I know of hope and longed for peace
When earthly storms have shaken.
I feel the comfort of your care each day I live.
And know your love, as daily You forgive.
I am one with Your wondrous earth
When I bring myself to slow,
Amazed at mountain views
And valleys down below.
Thank you, Lord, for blessings You bestow.

Covid-19 Easter Sunday
Alone. Closed down. Shut off.
Going on week four.
I hear a knock and take a look
To see who’s at my door.
My child, her kids, her hubby, too,
With chocolate treats and yummy food.
We visit through the clear, glass door,
Sing and laugh and speak,
They on the porch, in fold up chairs,
And I on an indoor seat.
Tears filled my eyes at their surprise,
When I saw them standing there.
It was Easter Day in a different way,
And they showed me they still cared.
It was a needed boost for a quarantined heart
When the Covid virus forced us apart.
More Than You See
I’m more than my wrinkles and sagging skin.
They represent me and where I’ve been.
I’m more than my steady but slowing pace.
More than what’s visible when you see my face.
I show a life that is fast moving by
With experiences of lows, mediums, and highs.
I’m a map of my journeys with up and down rides
Showing only a touch of what’s happened inside.
Still progressing, still very proud
Even if my body becomes slightly bowed.
I know things you have yet to learn.
I, too, have had dreams with passions that burned.
I’ve been where you are now
Where one day you might be.
And you might even say then
“I’m more than my wrinkles and sagging skin.
And more than you see.”
Betsy
It said how much she loves us (that and other words).
She writes:
For years we’ve been together, but now the time has come
For me to marry my sweet one and leave you Dad and Mom.
But I’ll come back and visit you, I won’t be far away.
This is what I’ve waited for. It’s my wedding day.
I see her as she was. . .
A backpack on her shoulders, ribbons in her hair,
And getting on the bus.
“I’ll be back. I won’t be far away.
This is cool; I’m going to school
Today is my first day.”
I remember projects that we made
How we waited for “our” grade.
I see her at the piano, in 4-H club and band.
I see her all decked out and gorgeous, ready for her dance.
It wasn’t long ago she drove the car all by herself.
I recall how proud she was.
How nervous we both felt.
I see her as she is tonight.
A radiant bride in snowy white.
I see the joy that’s on her face
and feel inside a growing ache
And know our job is done.
We give them both our blessing
and welcome our new son.
We won’t be far away, we say.
We love you more than ever.
Even though you’ve moved away,
Our love keeps us together.
